Who We Are

We are an independent analytical voice helping humanitarian workers, influencers, fundraisers, and donors
make better-informed decisions and respond more effectively to crises and disasters as they relate to women
and their human rights.

Independent

Analysis-
Provider

The IWI strives to remain free from the biases or vested interests of any specific enterprise,
sector, or region. We are not affiliated with the UN or any other organization or agenda.

The IWI is a pioneering and distinguished
international non-governmental organizations (INGO)
dedicated to advancing gender equality and
combating human rights violations against women
and girls, including gender-based violence. At its
core, The IWI comprises experts committed to the
principles and values of our organization, facilitating
swift analytic resources, mobilization and efficient
mission management in collaboration with the
United Nations, intergovernmental organizations
(IGOs), non-governmental organizations (NGOs) and
governments.

Despite progress in various realms, violations of
female human rights, gender inequality and gender-
based violence, to name a few, persist as formidable
challenges worldwide, thwarting social advancement
and impeding sustainable development. The need for
targeted interventions and expert support to
comprehensively address these issues remains
urgent. Recognising this imperative, The IWI has
curated a diverse pool of professionals with
specialized expertise to catalyse global change.

No Operational
Bias, We Maintain
Editorial Control

At the core of the humanitarian endeavour lies the conviction that all people affected by
disaster or conflict have the right to receive protection and assistance and live with dignity,
especially women, females and girls. This belief springs from the principle of humanity – the
idea that all human beings are born free and equal in dignity and rights. The experiences of
crises and human rights violations endured by women and girls are unique from those of
other members of the global population. Humanitarian action is also informed by the
principle of impartiality, meaning that the response must be equitable to those in need.

We continue to evolve and innovate while keeping agility at the core of everything we do.
We adapt to circumstances as they arise.

Women’s Human
Rights, Advocacy
& Policy Institute

When we started in 2012, ‘IWI’ stood for ‘International Women’s Initiative’. At that time IWI primarily
focused on programme development and campaign fundraising, with minimal focus on
undertaking field needs assessments and producing needs assessment tools. Although we still
offer assessment-related services, our core activities today centre around providing humanitarian
data and analysis as they relate to women’s human rights. To avoid confusion, we no longer spell
out our name. We are The IWI.
